Management announcement delayed due to Rangers contractual agreements with coach
Earlier this month, Rangers appointed Russell Martin as their new permanent manager. A few days after his arrival, assistant manager Issame Charaï left Ibrox.
Rangers announced Charaï’s departure on Friday and on Tuesday he was appointed as KVC Westerlo’s new first team manager.
Wednesday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen has a short report explaining why Westerlo delayed his appointment, even though the Belgian had already left Rangers.
The newspaper states the Belgian club had found an agreement with Charaï a few days ago. However, he had to sort out his contractual agreement with Rangers. This was needed for Westerlo to officially appoint the 43-year-old.
Towards the end of January, Charaï joined Rangers and became Phillippe Clement’s assistant at Ibrox.
Less than a month later, the Scottish club parted ways with Clement and appointed Barry Ferguson as the interim manager until the end of the season. Back in March Charaï said Clement’s sacking came as a shock to him.
He continued to part of Ferguson’s backroom staff, but left Rangers after Martin was appointed as Clement’s permanent successor.
