Maik Nawrocki has rejected accepting contract deal with club and reveals extending his stay at Celtic Fc

Maik Nawrocki’s time at Celtic looks to be winding down as talks are underway over a return to his homeland.

The Polish defender arrived from Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2023, brought in to help fill the void left by Carl Starfelt’s departure. The same window saw Lagerbielke and Phillips brought to the club too.

But Nawrocki and the others failed to establish themselves at Parkhead, with Nawrocki making just 13 league appearances across two campaigns, three of which came this season.

Now, Polish side Pogon Szczecin are reported to be in talks to bring the 24-year-old back to the Ekstraklasa. The club’s director Tan Kesler has confirmed discussions are ongoing. [Kanal]

The centre-back signed a five-year contract two summer’s ago when Celtic shelled out £4.5m to sign him from Legia.

As Nawrocki nears a potential exit, Celtic are pushing ahead with defensive reinforcements of their own. Japanese defender Hayato Inamura is a current target, with the club in discussions to bring the Albirex Niigata centre-back to Glasgow. The 23-year-old is viewed as a versatile option, capable of playing at left centre-back or covering at left-back.

This would continue Celtic’s strong relationship with the J-League, which has already delivered a string of key players including Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate.
