Rangers are reportedly eyeing Matija Frigan to replace Cyriel Dessers in the summer transfer window.

Dessers appears set to leave Ibrox and join AEK Athens in the coming days for a meagre £1.5million fee.

Despite having a respective goal-scoring record for the Gers, they are unable to cough up a higher transfer fee.

Russell Martin wants Matija Frigan to replace Dessers as £6m bid ready

Russell Martin is understood to be keen on Rangers signing a striker this summer.

With Dessers’ exit all but set, it becomes even more important for the new owners to sanction a move for a number nine.

They are now ready to back him with the money to go out and bring in the players he fancies.

According to the Scottish Sun (13 June), they are preparing to make an official £6m bid for Frigan, who’s currently plying his trade at Belgian side Westerlo.

Rangers will undoubtedly benefit from getting Frigan to Ibrox

Frigan could be the solution to Rangers‘ attacking struggles in the summer of 2025.

With the Ibrox outfit finishing a disappointing 17 points behind Celtic last season, new manager Martin and sporting director Kevin Thelwell are tasked with revitalising the squad.

Frigan’s 14 goals and four assists in 41 matches last season demonstrate his goal-scoring prowess and versatility, making him a strong fit for Martin’s high-energy, free-flowing system.

His pace, finishing, and ambidexterity are likened to Ciro Immobile, offering the clinical edge the Glasgow side need, especially with Dessers’ potential departure.

Frigan’s youth and potential align with Rangers’ aim to build a dynamic, long-term attacking unit, supported by a decent transfer budget from the 49ers Enterprises.

Despite competition from other clubs, Frigan’s proven track record in Belgium and prior success under Sergej Jakirovic at Rijeka make him a prime target.
