GOOD NEWS;Kevin Thelwell could now sign multi-million striker that Clement wanted at Rangers

Rangers are set to be active this summer with Kevin Thelwell leading their recruitment drive.

New manager Russell Martin needs to be backed by the 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh so that he can overhaul the squad.

The current group of players finished 17 points behind arch-rivals Celtic in a difficult campaign under Philippe Clement and then interim boss Barry Ferguson.

They need significant improvements if they are to avoid the same fate in the race for the Scottish Premiership title in the next campaign.

Rangers eye up Frigan move as price tag emerges

Westerlo striker Matija Frigan is attracting interest from the Govan outfit as they plot their business ahead of a busy summer.

Mark Hendry (9 June) has reported that Frigan is on a three-man shortlist of strikers for the Gers and would cost around £8.4million.

It states that the Light Blues have held an interest in the Croatian forward since Clement was in charge.

Thelwell signing Frigan would be a masterstroke

The Gers’ lack of firepower was a major issue this season.

The likes of Cyriel Dessers and Hamza Igamane had spells of good performances but were not consistent enough.

The Nigerian was often guilty of missing gilt-edged chances, while the Moroccan struggled to impose himself on Ferguson towards the latter stages of the campaign.

Player Appearances Goals Assists
Dessers 35 18 2
Igamane 33 12 1
Frigan 39 13 2
How Frigan compares with the Gers current options.

Frigan would help solve those problems, he notched 15 goal contributions in 39 matches in the Belgian Pro League and the Gers have picked out a diamond from that league before in Nico Raskin, who could be sold for a huge profit this summer.

The Bears need to be smart in their recruitment if they are to have any chance of catching Brendan Rodgers’ side, and Thelwell picking up a promising striker from Europe may be a great way to get ahead of the curve.
