Nottingham Forest have found the experienced defender they want to replace Alex Moreno
Nottingham Forest look less and less likely to sign Alex Moreno permanently in the summer, with one experienced defender poised to take his place.
Alex Moreno joined Forest on loan in the summer and looked to be a reliable option at left-back for Nuno Espírito Santo, but Neco Williams’ excellent form in the role has limited his minutes.
The signs were good early on as Moreno was brilliant against Liverpool in September, and he was certainly a positive member of the Forest squad despite not getting on the pitch.
Only one start in the league in 2025 looked to seal his fate at the City Ground, with a fresh report suggesting that Forest have already found a defender to take Moreno’s place.
Nottingham Forest enter race for experienced Reinildo Mandava
Evangelos Marinakis is planning serious investment at Forest, but there’s nothing better than a bargain deal in the transfer window, with Atletico Madrid’s Reinildo looking like a no-brainer.
According to The Mirror: “Nottingham Forest have made enquiries for Atletico Madrid defender Reinildo Mandava. The 31-year-old Mozambique international is poised to become a free agent this summer following the expiry of his contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Mandava’s deal was initially due to expire on June 30, but he has agreed a short-term contract extension that will enable him to participate in the FIFA Club World Cup. Beyond that, he’s expected to depart Atletico following three-and-a-half years of service.
Forest have made the signing of a new left-back one of their top transfer priorities as they look to recruit competition for Neco Williams following the Welshman’s stellar campaign at the City Ground.”
With Champions League experience, Reinildo would be an ideal replacement for Moreno, as well as offering tactical flexibility to Espírito Santo.
