Steven Gerrard gets new job with Rangers appointment set to be announced

Steven Gerrard has scored himself a brand new gig just before the end of the season.

However, this is separate to him potentially returning to Rangers.

The Liverpool legend has been confirmed to join TNT Sports’ panel for coverage of Saturday’s Champions League final between Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain.

News of Gerrard’s appearance came on the same day Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand announced Saturday’s fixture would be his last for the broadcaster.

Ferdinand described the decision as ‘difficult’ and outlined plans to focus on his own media company.

He was signed as BT Sport’s flagship pundit after the broadcaster acquired Premier League and Champions League rights, before the channel was re-branded to TNT Sports in 2023.

As for Gerrard, he is evidently keeping busy ahead of what may be a return to the dugout.

The Liverpool great has been out of work since he departed Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq by mutual consent in January.

Gerrard departed having won 19 of his 55 matches in charge.

He enjoyed a promising start to life at Al Ettifaq as they won six of his opening eight matches in charge.

However, they then went on a nine-game winless run from October to December 2023, although he then signed a contract extension.

With Gerrard open for work, talkSPORT understands Gerrard is the favourite to become the next permanent manager of Rangers, who he led to an unbeaten Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 season.

Davide Ancelotti is also believed to be in contention with the job.

The 35-year-old is the son of legendary coach Carlo Ancelotti and worked as his assistant at Real Madrid before they both departed at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Davide has worked alongside his father in coaching roles at several clubs including Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Madrid.
