I will not play again;Morgan Gibbs-White Nottingham Forest player announced his exit
Morgan Gibbs-White has thanked Nottingham Forest fans for their “unwavering support” after a memorable season at the City Ground.
In a heartfelt message posted on social media, the England international reflected on a campaign which saw the Reds secure European football for the first time in three decades. But amid interest from Manchester City, some Forest supporters felt what Gibbs-White didn’t say was perhaps as telling as what he did.
Alongside emojis of a tree and a heart, the 25-year-old wrote: “24/25. What a season with this incredible club. From fighting relegation to being back in Europe after 30 years. Thank you for your unwavering support this season, you’ve been incredible.”
Reds full-back Ola Aina replied “Magic man” and fellow defender Morato responded with applause emojis. Forest fans, however, noted the absence of a message along the lines of “see you next season” from Gibbs-White’s post.
One said: “No ‘see you next season’… It’s been a pleasure. Thanks for the memories.”
Another said: “You was meant to say ‘see you next season.’
One wrote: “If the last few games of the season didn’t say it then this post says it as clear as day. Appreciate the good times Morgz, don’t let Pep (Guardiola) turn you into (Jack) Grealish.”
Another supporter added: “Every other player was a let’s push on next season or see you next season, he already knows he’s off.”
Another responded with a pen emoji and said: “10 more of them please fella
Posting a tearful emoji, one said: “Well this feels like goodbye!”
Some fans pointed out Gibbs-White also did not include the line “see you next season” in end-of-term posts after his previous two campaigns in the Garibaldi.
The Reds ace had already said on his Instagram stories, posted immediately after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea: “European football secured after 30 years.
