Everton player confirms exit after seven-year stay at Goodison Park

Everton are bracing themselves for a busy transfer window ahead, with a squad overhaul on the cards.

David Moyes took over mid-season and managed to get his side to punch above their weight, but he will want reinforcements this summer.

The Friedkin Group are also braced for their first major transfer window since buying the Toffees.

Joao Virginia expresses gratitude as he seals Goodison exit

Joao Virginia moved to the Everton academy in 2018 after a stint at Arsenal and has been at the club ever since.

He did go out on loan on three occasions, but he has been contracted to the Merseyside outfit.

However, he will not feature again for the Toffees as he’s leaving this summer with his contract expiring.

Thus far, it is unclear where he’ll be moving, but he has thanked the club for helping him grow as a player.

The 25-year-old has admitted he wants to return to Benfica, so a move to Portugal may be on the cards for him.

He wrote on Instagram: “I want to express my deepest gratitude, what a journey these past seven years have been.

“The club gave me the opportunity to grow, to play and train at the highest level. It made me the person and player I am today, and for that I will always be thankful. The Toffees always welcomed and supported me since day one.

“Now I leave being forever one of your own. I will always cherish the friendship and the memories created with staff and teammates during these years and for that I am really grateful.

“Everton has truly been like family to me, and I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for the club. Thank you for everything, it’s been an unforgettable chapter of my life.

“Forever a Blue, Joao Virginia.”
