Rangers icon set to return to Ibrox next season as Gers finally replace goalscoring midfielder

Rangers are on the brink of yet another summer of upheaval after a disastrous domestic campaign in Glasgow.

But with a new Rangers manager in the pipeline, and investment from the US on the horizon, there’s a different feeling around Ibrox heading into season 25/26.

The Rangers squad looks set to be ripped up and all attentions are turning to which players the 49ers, Kevin Thelwell and the club’s new manager will look to next season.

But whilst Rangers fans are uncertain with regards who will be pulling on the famous jersey next season, they will see one familiar face back at Ibrox later this year.

Scott Arfield set to return to Ibrox after two year absence

Scott Arfield remains a positive figure amongst the Rangers support after productive five-year-stint in Glasgow where he helped rebuild the club back to former glories.

Whilst the last few years in Scotty’s absence haven’t gone to plan, the midfielder is back in Scotland after stints in the US and English lower leagues.

Returning to his first club Falkirk in January, Arfield, 36, was in inspired form to help fire the Bairns back to the Scottish Premiership, netting nine goals in 13 games.

And now the former Canada international has signed on for another year at the Falkirk Stadium, meaning the midfielder is in line to return to Ibrox next season.

Whilst the fixtures are yet to be announced, should Arfield be fit and available the midfielder is set to make his first appearance at Ibrox since leaving the Gers in 2023.

Have Rangers finally found Scott Arfield replacement?

There’s an argument that Rangers have never quite replaced Scott Arfield ever since the midfielder left the club.

Arfield was a big contributor in the final third for Rangers, scoring nine goals in his final season at Ibrox and 43 in total across five campaigns.
