Leicester City already have Ruud van Nistelrooy’s replacement lined up, he’s set to join ‘imminently’

Leicester City supporters have been put through misery this term, but an update has emerged on Ruud van Nistelrooy’s potential successor.

Not only have the Foxes suffered relegation back to the Championship, but Leicester City are facing a points deduction on their return to the second tier after breaching the EFL’s financial rules for the 2023/24 campaign.

That follows what has been a terrible campaign in the top-flight, accelerated by the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is facing the sack after winning just five of his 26 matches in all competitions.

City have been on the lookout for a new manager to replace Van Nistelrooy for the past few months, with Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl emerging as an option for Leicester.

The German tactician was one of several names placed on the shortlist, and now it’s been revealed who is set to take over at the King Power Stadium.

Russell Martin to ‘imminently’ replace Ruud van Nistelrooy at Leicester City

We exclusively revealed in April that Russell Martin was available to Leicester City after being sacked by Southampton in December.

The 39-year-old has been holding out for the right job ever since, and was even touted as a potential replacement for Daniel Farke if Leeds United shockingly sacked him.

Now, as reported by the Daily Mail, Van Nistelrooy is primed to leave in the coming days and that has opened the door for Martin to join ‘imminently’ after holding conversations with the club this week.

Leicester’s final game of the Premier League season is away at Bournemouth on Sunday, and that promises to be the Dutchman’s last match in charge.

Martin’s record against Leicester City is miserable

Southampton achieved promotion with Martin at the helm last term, beating Leeds in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

The Scotsman is known for his possession-oriented style that grinds down opponents and patiently waits for openings.
