Jackson not convinced by appointment Rangers could make today amid new information
Rangers could have a new manager in place within hours amid strong talk of Steven Gerrard being the man the board now want to hire.
Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership title with Rangers in his first spell in 2021, but many remain unhappy with the manner of his departure to Aston Villa.
Out-of-work Gerrard is the overwhelming favourite to take over as next Rangers manager, with suggestions an announcement could be made as early as Wednesday (21 May).
That is despite some stumbling blocks surrounding Gerrard, who is still living in the Middle East following his spell managing Al-Ettifaq.
However, the imminent appointment news has not gone down well with everyone.
Keith Jackson not convinced by Gerrard appointment at Rangers
Gerrard has been there and done it as far as Rangers are concerned, which is something fellow candidate Davide Ancelotti cannot boast.
For journalist Keith Jackson, though, he is not as convinced by the news of Gerrard‘s seemingly imminent appointment after what he has discovered.
“I’ve got to be honest,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Record (20 May). “About an hour ago I was coming to the conclusion that this sounds right.
“But other information has since come to light, I’m now less than convinced.”
The report went on to add that personal reasons, namely convincing his family to return to the United Kingdom, is the biggest factor behind an appointment collapsing.
Gerrard could be smart hire for Rangers
Ancelotti was a name that excited many Rangers fans and pundits alike, but ultimately he lacks any experience of senior management.
Competition | Matches | Wins | Draws | Losses |
Scottish Premiership | 107 | 76 | 21 | 10 |
Gerrard has not only managed a few clubs of his own, he has guided Rangers to title success and that has to count for something.
