Ibrox View: Gerrard return may have been signed at Rangers as cancellation emerges
Steven Gerrard has been heavily linked with a return to Rangers.
The 44-year-old took the Gers to the Scottish Premiership title in an unbeaten 2020/21 season in his first role in management.
He has struggled to replicate that success in stints at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq, but an Ibrox return could be closer than ever after details of a cancellation emerged.
Gerrard sparks Rangers’ comeback hopes with cancellation
Gerrard has been touted as a replacement for former interim Barry Ferguson for several months.
However, the path may now be clear for him to come back to Govan after he cancelled an appearance at an upcoming event.
His former Liverpool teammate Djibril Cissé took to Instagram (20 May) to announce that the former Reds skipper could not make the Auxerre Legends v Cissé Legends event on 27 May.
It is said the ex-Gers manager is busy for “professional reasons”, setting tongues wagging around Ibrox.
Rangers return would be very different for Gerrard
A return to the club that handed him his first spell in management would be a challenge for Gerrard, but it could be signed off within days after this update.
It is not the same Bears that he took to title glory; it is a team that is miles behind his former manager, Brendan Rodgers‘ Celtic, in the league.

The 49ers face a huge task to turn around the Auchenhowie outfit’s fortunes in the summer, with a huge overhaul needed to fix the playing squad at the very least as it is need of major surgery.
It is absolutely vital that they get the next appointment spot on, otherwise it could make the journey to catch up with the Hoops even longer.
