Steven Gerrard is ‘preferred’ next Rangers manager as takeover kings clear sensational return for one key reason
The Liverpool icon brought the title to Ibrox during his first spell at the club.
Out of work Steven Gerrard is reportedly the “preferred” candidate to take charge at Rangers in a sensational return.
Gerrard is looking for his next job following his ill-fated spell at Al-Ettifaq. After leaving Rangers for his shot at the English Premier League he was shown the door by Aston Villa before making a surprise move to the Saudi Pro League.
However, that spell came to an end earlier this season with Ettifaq struggling near the foot of the table.
With interim boss Barry Ferguson leaving his post following the final game of the Scottish Premiership season against Hibs the process of appointing a new boss has ramped up.

And The Daily Mail report that the he Liverpool icon – who took the title to Ibrox in 2021 – is the “preferred candidate”.
The 49ers Enterprises group alongside Andrew Cavenagh are said to view Gerrard as the “man to lead the club forward once the US takeover is finalised.”
Real Madrid coach Davide Ancelotti is on the shortlist but the decision-makers now appear to prefer a boss with “frontline managerial experience.”
They are also keen to appoint the new man as soon as possible with pre-season set to kick-off on June 23 – a month ahead of the crucial Champions League qualifiers kicking off.
Ancelotti is expected to join dad Carlo at the Brazil national team for two pre-agreed games against Paraguay and Ecuador before looking for new coaching job.
