Goalkeeper confirms Leeds United exit after 14 years at the club, Mateo Joseph responds
Leeds United published their retained list on Saturday and alongside the confirmed departure of Josuha Guilavogui, 10 young players will also be released at the end of their contract.
Leeds confirmed Guilavogui would leave while they remain in talks over a new deal for both Sam Byram and Junior Firpo. James Debayo, Rory Mahady and two other younger players have been offered deals.
A long list of 10 youngsters have now departed the club with the headlines being the U21’s star striker Luca Thomas not putting pen to paper, while Ireland youth international Cian Coleman is also leaving.
Harry Christy is also departing after an excellent season between the sticks for the U21 side when used by Scott Gardner. With Mahady putting pen to paper, it was always going to be likely that Christy would go.
Harry Christy emotional on Instagram after Leeds exit
Christy has been a recognisable face among the U18 and U21 sides over the last couple of years. He had clocked up 32 appearances with the 18’s and gone on to play 18 times for the second string at Leeds.
This season, the 21-year-old stopper even captained the U21’s in a 3-0 away win over Tottenham. But he was always second choice to Mahady, and with the latter staying it was obvious he would be departing.
Following the retained list on Saturday, Christy took to Instagram on Sunday evening and confirmed he would be leaving the club with an emotional post to the club’s fans – 14 years after joining the club.
He said: “14 years and many memories later. Thank you Leeds United.”
Mateo Joseph and Darko Gyabi among those to reply to Christy
Christy failed to make a senior appearance for Leeds but has appeared on the bench during Daniel Farke’s era, named as a substitute during the 1-1 FA Cup draw against Plymouth during the 2023-24 campaign.
