He left Nottingham Forest last summer, now he’s just been relegated after nightmare season with new club
Nottingham Forest offloaded several first-teamers last summer.
Nuno Espirito Santo completely overhauled his Nottingham Forest squad, allowing a whopping 21 players to leave.
Orel Mangala and Moussa Niakhate were notable sales, as they joined Lyon in big-money moves, which helped Forest’s PSR issues.
Odysseas Vlachodimos also commanded a sizable fee, as he joined Newcastle United, with Elliot Anderson coming the other way.
The players who left Forest have all had varying degrees of success at their new club, but for one man, it’s been a total disaster.
Scott McKenna suffers relegation in first season with Las Palmas
After four years at the club, and a loan spell at Copenhagen sandwiched between, Nottingham Forest allowed Scott McKenna to join Las Palmas on a free transfer last year.
Las Palmas placed great emphasis on recruiting from the Premier League that window, with Fabio Silva, Stefan Bajcetic and Olie McBurnie joining.
However, it’s not worked out for the La Liga outfit as they’ve just been relegated following a bruising season.
Las Palmas have lost 20 of their 36 games in La Liga, with Scott McKenna a regular fixture in the defence.
They’ll now be plying their trade in the second tier of Spanish football, where financial resources are much weaker.
So perhaps McKenna may be forced to leave.
There are positives for McKenna
Whilst it’s not been a great season for McKenna results-wise, he has been able to play against Real Madrid and Barcelona at some of the most iconic stadiums in the world.
“Coming here was an opportunity for us: a different league, and a top one,” McKenna told The Guardian in December.
“Unless you’re playing for a Champions League team, you’ll probably never get the opportunity to play Madrid or Barcelona.”
