Owen Coyle thinks Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are about to let an ‘unbelievable’ player leave

Celtic’s planning for the 2025 summer transfer has been underway for some time.

Brendan Rodgers spoke about Celtic’s transfer plans ahead of the club’s trip to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen in the Premiership on Wednesday night.

On the domestic scene, it’s the same old story for Celtic, dominating again, and on course for another Treble if they beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final on May 24.

But whilst the Celtic Park faithful are delighted with the performances on the domestic stage, it’s the Champions League where everyone wants to see some real progression, as was the case this term under Rodgers.

That’s where that higher calibre of player is needed, and it’s why Kieran Tierney will be returning to Celtic in the summer when his contract at Arsenal expires.

It’s also a reason why Greg Taylor has divided opinion all season long, as sections of the fanbase feel he isn’t good enough for the top, top level the Hoops play at.

But Taylor was given his flowers by former Premier League manager and boyhood Celtic fan, Owen Coyle.

Taylor’s contract expires in the summer, and if he was going to pen a new contract, then surely it would have happened by now.

The 27-year-old moved to Glasgow from Kilmarnock in 2019 under Neil Lennon, just as Tierney started his new career path at Arsenal.

Despite coming from lower down in the league and from a smaller club, Coyle wanted to give Taylor a shout-out, and how he has proven himself, despite not being a ‘fancy signing’, as he told Open Goal.

“I think I would keep Taylor in,” stated Coyle on his Celtic team for the final against Aberdeen. “He is out-of-contract, obviously, but he has been an unbelievable player since coming in.
