Everton backed to agree ‘fantastic’ John Stones return amid transfer latest

John Stones could be set to return to Everton almost nine years after he left the Toffees to join Manchester City.

David Moyes has done a fantastic job since he returned to Everton, with the Toffees securing another impressive three points by beating Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday (10 May).

However, the 62-year-old will no doubt be keen to take things up a level next year.

There will be plenty of work to do in the summer with a host of key players out of contract at the end of the season, such as Michael Keane, who is expected to leave Everton.

Meanwhile, Jarrad Branthwaite’s future remains up in the air. Therefore, a new centre-back will be a priority, and Everton have now been backed to bring Stones back to Merseyside.

Everton interested in re-signing Stones from Manchester City

As reported by TBR Football (30 April), Everton are one of several clubs interested in Stones.

Manchester City are frustrated by the 30-year-old’s constant injury setbacks, which could open the door to an Everton return.

And ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – thinks this would be a positive next move for Stones in his career.

“It was Moyes who brought Stones to Everton initially,” King said.

“The scouting department did a great job locating him at Barnsley. He was signed for a reasonable fee, just over £1million. Moyes likes him, of course, he still has service to give, he can still play. Moyes knows him, he can play as a full-back or at centre-back.

“That could certainly be an interesting move for Everton. If Stones thinks his days are up at Manchester City, then Everton would be a fantastic option.”
