It’s time to come home’ – Rangers fans beg former star to return as he bids tearful farewell to relegated club
He was a fan favourite
IT’s the dawn of a new era at Rangers.
But could they go back to the future and tempt one of their former stars to return to the Premiership?
If the Gers fans have anything to do with it, that would certainly be the case.
Nikola Katic played for the Ibrox club between 2018 and 2022.
The defender was injured during the title-winning campaign under Steven Gerrard in 2020-21 but was a popular player during his time in Glasgow.
He returned to his homeland of Croatia with Hajduk Split in 2021 on loan before departing permanently for Zurich of Switzerland the following season.
But he came back to British football this year when he signed for Plymouth Argyle in the Championship.
He had been linked with a return to Rangers but instead he joined the Pilgrims and hoped to save them from relegation.
Katic impressed early on and even got on the scoresheet but he couldn’t help them avoid the drop in the end.
He will now return to Zurich but his future is up in the air.
The 28-year-old (who represents Bosnia & Herzegovina internationally) penned an emotional goodbye to the Argyle faithful on social media.
But in the comments of his Instagram post were plenty of Rangers fans telling him to “come home”.
Katic wrote: “Gave it all every time I put shirt on to help you achieve your goal and stay where you belong.
“Makes me sad we couldn’t do it, but I’m sure you will bounce back.
“Even it was short period you made me feel like home.
“Support was brilliant and I couldn’t thank you enough for that.
“Once a Janner, always a Janner.
