Steven Gerrard to Rangers obliterated as next manager to have ‘no previous involvement’ at Ibrox
It has been claimed that that 49ers appointment won’t have a previous connection with the club, ruling out a host of names
Rangers will reportedly will reportedly recruit a manager with NO previous to connection to the club.
That would rule out odds-on favourite Steven Gerrard returning to Ibrox, current caretaker Barry Ferguson and even the interim gaffer’s former Rangers team-mates Kevin Muscat and Derek McInnes – and even Russell Martin had a loan spell in Govan.
Ferguson urged the Rangers takeover consortium to speed up the process with the return to pre-season for the squad likely only around seven weeks away.
And with a crucial Champions League second round qualifier on the horizon, the Light Blues must find a boss to lead them into a new area.
The takeover by 49ers Enterprises is reaching a conclusion but while talk of a return for Gerrard is a hot topic, the Rangers Review have played down that prospect.
Muscat, McInnes and Ferguson all obviously have ties to Ibrox but it’s stated: “One of the familiar names in this debate, Derek McInnes, is not in the running this time around. Muscat perhaps still maintains some support amongst the fans. It would be no surprise if a left field name not on the betting list lands the job.
The case for Ferguson to remain in charge beyond his interim period does not stack up now. The Ibrox legend was always going to have to pull off something remarkable to land the job on a full-time basis and results and performances just haven’t been there. When the chances of Europa League glory ended in Bilbao, so did his prospects of getting the job.
