Defender suddenly rejects new deal and can now reunite with Daniel Farke at Leeds United

With Leeds United on the cusp of automatic promotion, it looks as if Daniel Farke and The 49ers are already putting plans in place when it comes to the summer transfer window.

The summer could not look any more different between getting promoted, and another season in the Championship if Leeds capitulate and fail to secure promotion back to the Premier League at this stage.

Leeds are likely to need fresh faces all across the pitch if they are to compete and survive against 17 teams who have each been playing Premier League football for more than three seasons in a row now; they are at an obvious disadvantage in that sense.

A potential silver lining is that the Whites have recruited well in recent seasons, with the likes of Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle, and Manor Solomon all catching the eye with their performances this season. Their importance to the team has been crucial to competing at the top of the league all season long.

Daniel Farke will surely be eyeing another Borussia Monchengladbach reunion with Ko Itakura

Leeds have made use of the German market on a few occasions already, with Daniel Farke’s side bringing in Ilia Gruev. Josuha Guilavogui, and Tanaka in the last two seasons in the second tier. It’s an area that they are likely to explore again this summer.

Julian Weigl has already been linked with a reunion with Leeds’ head coach, to no one’s great surprise. Weigl is a player Farke signed from Benfica at Borussia Monchengladbach for £6 million, per GGFN, and he is a midfielder with Germany caps.

Leeds manager Farke told Transfermarkt that Weigl is a “great player and person”, both on and off the pitch. It’s clear that he is a player on the radar of Farke and co.
