Nottingham Forest player now on borrowed time at the City Ground after bizarre FA Cup snub
Nottingham Forest were beaten by Manchester City in the semi-final of the FA Cup on Sunday to end a brilliant run in this season’s competition.
The Reds lost courtesy of goals from Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol, with the goals meaning that Forest miss out on a first FA Cup final since 1991.
Nuno Espirito Santo sprung a few surprises with his team selection to play City, with Harry Toffolo keeping his place at left-back and young Zach Abbott coming in for his maiden start in the FA Cup at right-back.
Anthony Elanga was also omitted from the starting eleven as Espirito Santo chose to have the winger as an impact player from the bench in the second half.
For some players, there will have been vast disappointment when the Forest head coach named his team, and for one Reds performer, the writing is now surely on the wall.
Alex Moreno on borrowed time at Nottingham Forest
The Spanish left-back is on loan at Forest from Aston Villa and it must have come as a shock to the player when Espirito Santo named his team to face Manchester City at Wembley.
Moreno has been shunted down the pecking order by Harry Toffolo, who came in against Tottenham last week and produced a quality performance sufficient enough to see him keep his place in the team for the semi-final.
Forest need all the full-back options they can get at the moment, with Ola Aina unavailable and Neco Williams being asked to play an awful lot of football this season.
Moreno is a reliable option when called upon and it was a real surprise that he wasn’t given the nod to play as a left-back in Espirito Santo’s team against City, with Abbott coming in at right-back too.
