Fulham join West Ham in race to sign £20k-a-week Southampton FC star
Fulham are interested in Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters, with the full-back set to be a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.
The 28-year-old has been with Saints since January 2020, when he joined on an initial loan, and whilst it has been a tough period for the club since, he has generally impressed.
But, with his £20k-a-week contract running down, and Southampton suffering relegation, it’s inevitable that Walker-Peters will be on the move this summer.
Fulham are looking into potential deal for Kyle Walker-Peters
It has been claimed that West Ham are tracking the former Spurs man, and it appears they will face competition for his signature from a fellow London club, as Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth confirmed the Cottagers’ interest.
“Fulham are interested in signing full-back Kyle Walker-Peters when his contract at Southampton expires in the summer. Fulham are expected to open talks with his representatives at the end of the season and are aware there will be competition for him.”
Marco Silva’s men remain in the hunt for a top eight finish, which is likely to bring European football, something that would no doubt make them a more attractive option to Walker-Peters.
Southampton will need to plan for a major squad overhaul this summer
It has been a terrible campaign for Saints, and Walker-Peters has to take some responsibility for his part of that.
But, he has still done enough to show that he belongs in the Premier League, and there is always going to be plenty of interest in the player, especially as he will be available on a free.
His ability to play down either flank, or as a wing-back, makes him an appealing option, and ultimately it will be down to the twice-capped England international to decide his next move.
