Nottingham Forest now interested in signing £50m attacker who Newcastle were leading the race for

It’s now looking increasingly likely that both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United could be playing Champions League football next season.

After Aston Villa’s defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea are perhaps the biggest threat to Forest and Newcastle who are sat in fourth and fifth respectively.

Although, it should be mentioned that Chelsea do have a tough run of fixtures to end their campaign, including a trip to the City Ground on the final day of the season.

Of course, were Forest to secure Champions League football for next term then they would be able to be a lot more ambitious in the transfer market this summer.

And on the back of Forest’s interest in Ademola Lookman who’s excelling in the Serie A, there’s now a new name on Nuno Espirito Santo’s radar.

Nottingham Forest join the race for Bryan Mbeumo

According to Give Me Sport, Forest are now interested in signing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Forest have identified Mbeumo as someone who could thrive in Nuno’s system, a forward who could excel in their counter-attacking style.

Of course, Forest were interested in Yoane Wissa in the past, perhaps for similar reasons.

But 25-year-old Mbeumo is undoubtedly the biggest star in Thomas Frank’s side, a player who is ready to step up to the next level, with the greatest respect to Brentford.

The London club would demand £50m for Mbeumo this summer according to the report, a price tag which is befitting of his talent.

That being said, TBR Football understands that Newcastle are leading the race for Mbeumo among Premier League clubs right now, a side who have been searching for a right-winger for some time.

Thierry Henry’s verdict on Bryan Mbeumo’s future

A few months ago, Thierry Henry confessed that he thought that Mbeumo might be tempted to find a new club in the near future.
