Junior Firpo ‘contract announcement’ on cards within hours at Leeds United

Junior Firpo is facing an uncertain future at Leeds United after entering the final three months of his contract.

Leeds are on the verge of securing automatic promotion to the Premier League after earning a thumping 6-0 victory over Stoke at Elland Road on Easter Monday (21 April).

While Joel Piroe grabbed the headlines after finding the back of the net four times, Firpo was also one of the standout performers for the Whites after getting his name on the scoresheet.

The left-back got his Championship goals tally for the season to four, helping Daniel Farke and Co. edge another step closer to promotion.

Firpo to be exposed despite ‘tremendous’ claim

Firpo has been ever-present in the Leeds United team on their road to promotion, but is weeks away from departing Elland Road as things stand.

The former Barcelona ace’s contract is due to run out at the end of June, and the Whites are yet to make a decision over his future.

Assessing Firpo’s situation, Aidy White insisted that Leeds United may offer clarity over the player’s contract as early as this week if they secure promotion.

The BBC pundit described the defender’s ability in attack as ‘tremendous’ and expressed his desire to see him commit his future to the West Yorkshire outfit.

However, White went on to express concerns over Firpo’s defending, adding that he is certain to get exposed in the Premier League next season.

“Going forward, he has been tremendous, with his goals and his assists”, White said on BBC Radio Leeds (21 April, 5:45 pm).

“He’s out of contract coming up at the end of the season, and whether it’s going to get renewed remains to be seen.

“Maybe that’ll get all sorted once we’ve gotten a little bit more clarity on whether promotion is tonight or whether we have to wait.
