Leicester City protest banner flies over King Power Stadium ahead of Liverpool relegation decider
It’s the latest show of discontent with King Power criticised ahead of the club’s impending relegation, with chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha in attendance
Leicester City fans have shown their anger at the running of the club by flying a banner over the King Power Stadium.
Ahead of kick-off against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, a plane flew over the ground with a banner trailing behind that read: “King Power clueless. Sack the board.”
It’s the latest protest against the organisation at the club as they get set for another relegation. Failure to beat Liverpool will send City back down to the Championship.
City chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha was present at the King Power Stadium for the match and so may have seen the banner.
The idea for the plane banner was formulated last month and more than £1,000 was raised by supporters in a few days to fund it.
There was a debate over the wording on the banner, with suggestions of “King Power out” eventually side-stepped.
It’s just the latest show of frustration from supporters. Throughout the campaign there have been chants calling for the removal of director of football Jon Rudkin and for the board to be sacked.
In February, a few hundred fans marched in protest as part of the supporter-led ‘Project Reset’.
In the ground, a banner was held up that read “Internal review? You don’t have a clue” in reference to the supposed in-house analysis of where the previous relegation season went wrong, of which no results have been published.
Writing in his programme notes ahead of the game against Liverpool, chairman Top said: “Whatever has happened anywhere else and what might happen over the next six games, our focus must be on what we control.
