French clubs eye move for Leeds United star – 25 year old could play Champions League football next season
With just three games to go till the end of the season, Leeds United have all but secured their place in the Premier League. But as with all newly promoted sides, not everyone in the team will make the step up.
One player that looks on his way out of Elland Road is Illan Meslier. The Frenchman was dropped from the starting lineup after two horrible errors that cost the club points against Swansea City. Meslier has had a decent season overall, but his tendency to make some fumbles reappeared early this season.
Since Farke benched the keeper, Karl Darlow has taken his place between the sticks. And the results make Meslier look even more questionable. Four games, just two goals conceded and two clean sheets has been all the evidence needed that Farke made the right decision.
If Leeds do make it to the Premier League this summer, there will be question marks about who becomes first choice keeper. Multiple reports over the past few weeks have suggested that Leeds will be in the market to sign a new goalkeeper. Aaron Ramsdale, Angus Gunn and Caomhin Kelleher have all been linked in recent weeks.
According to Jeunes Footeux in France, Strasbourg could line up a shock move for Illan Meslier. The report claims that the Ligue 1 side are keeping their eye on Meslier’s situation this summer. With their current first choice keeper set to return to his parent club, Liam Rosenior wants a replacement ahead of next season. There were also reports that Leicester City and Rennes could be in the race for the 25-year old.
Strasbourg are currently in the race for Europe this season, and could end up in the Champions League.
