Tottenham announces the the immediate Sack of Ange Postecoglou Now and Appoint ‘Genius’ Free-Agent Manager
It’s another loss for Ange Postecoglou in the Premier League, as Tottenham Hotspur crumbled to their 17th loss in just 32 top-flight games this season – and the Australian is walking on thinner ice than ever in terms of keeping his job.
Spurs travelled to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, knowing that a loss would put their opponents just two points behind them in the table – despite Wolves being on a mere nine points when Gary O’Neil was given his marching orders in December. But a 4-2 loss to Wolves at Molineux saw Spurs fall to yet another defeat in the league, and if they don’t win the Europa League this season, it will mark one of the dullest seasons in the club’s history.
Postecoglou Form Could See Him Sacked
They drew their first leg 1-1 against quarter-final opponents Eintracht Frankfurt on home soil, giving the Bundesliga side the advantage due to playing in front of a home crowd at the Deutsche Bank Park – and a loss there will see Tottenham’s season fizzle out without a whimper.
That could see Postecoglou sacked – but if Tottenham are to be serious about their chances of silverware, they may need to sack the Australian early doors – in which Thiago Motta could come in.
Motta, who excelled at Bologna last season by finishing fifth in the Serie A, was labelled a ‘genius’ for his endeavours – from which he joined Juventus in the summer after his rapid rise as a boss. But after winning just 18 of his 42 games in charge of the club, despite only losing seven, he was let go in March.
There is no doubting Motta’s quality as a coach, having won four Serie A Coach of the Month titles, and the club were still fifth when he was sacked.
