DEAL DONE:Ruud van Nistelrooy has finally Terminated his Contract and Russell Martin reveals his as replacement
Latest Leicester City news as Russell Martin speaks out on his next job ahead of a potential summer managerial changes
Russell Martin has hinted what criteria must be met for his return to football management amid reports linking him with a move to Leicester City in the summer.
Martin was sacked by Southampton at the end of 2024 after struggling to adapt to life in the Premier League. The former Scotland international had led the Saints to an immediate promotion in May after winning the Championship play-off final against Lees.
Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at the King Power Stadium remains in question after a horrendous run of form at the club.
Having said last week that he did not want to run away from the situation at City, the Dutchman refused to confirm his stance on his future following Monday’s 3-0 loss to Newcastle.
Asked if he remained committed, he said: “The most important thing is the club and these players, that’s what I would say for now.”
Pushed to answer if he sees himself carrying on as head coach, he added: “The most important thing is the club and the players, that is my reaction.”
Reports have already linked a number of managers with the Leicester job ahead of their expected return to the Championship. Strasbourg’s Liam Rosenior has been mentioned with Martin said to be being considered by the City hierarchy.
For the first time since he was dismissed by Southampton in December, Martin has spoken out publicly about what the future looks like for him.
Sitting alongside former Leicester striker Gary Lineker on the Rest is Football Podcast, the 39-year-old explained what he’s looking for in his next role.
“I hope to be in [next job] for day one of pre-season,” he said.
