New boss Barry Ferguson might have wanted a look at him
BEN DAVIES has said he is “seriously considering” a permanent move to Birmingham City this summer.
Davies was loaned to the League One leaders last August and has played a key part in their push for promotion.
The 29-year-old defender had fallen out of favour at Rangers under Philippe Clement, having been signed during Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s reign in the summer of 2022 for £3m.
He’s played 37 times for the Blues this season, scoring once, and has more often than not been in the starting XI under boss Chris Davies.
Davies has a contract with the Ibrox club that runs until June 2026.
But he could QUIT Gers before the start of next season after refusing to rule out a transfer to Birmingham once his loan deal expires.
Davies’ first goal for the St Andrew’s side came on Saturday in a 4-1 win over Shrewsbury.
After the game he was asked about the prospect of him snubbing a return to Rangers and exploring a move to the West Midlands.
He said: “I haven’t thought about it.
“I came on loan to play a lot of games and hopefully help Birmingham back up and have a good season.
“I’m happy with how it’s going here but I’ll think about that and consider all my options in the summer.
“I’m going to work here till the summer then see what my agent says. I’m really enjoying it here so if the opportunity arose I’d consider it seriousy.
“But it’s not really my decision at the minute so I’m going to wait and then see what’s happening.”
There doesn’t appear to be an option to buy for Birmingham in the Davies deal so a transfer would require both clubs and the player to come to terms that suit all parties
