Leeds United finally sign and reveal their winter interest in Nottingham Forest defender
Leeds United have been credited with revived interest in Nottingham Forest’s Andrew Omobamidele in a report from Give Me Sport.
Leeds United are focused on winning promotion back to the Premier League but the relevant figures in the LUFC hierarchy will have eyes on the summer transfer window too.
The Whites will have early targets in mind, likely planning for two scenarios: a Championship stay or a Premier League return. The latter is obviously the target and they’re on course to achieve that goal too, sitting top of the table with eight games left.
However, there are some targets who could feasibly be signed in either the second-tier or top-flight just as star centre-back Joe Rodon was last summer.
Now, winter rumours of a Leeds United move for Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele have re-emerged.
According to Give Me Sport, LUFC have shortlisted the Irishman as a potential summer transfer target. A permanent move away from Forest may await after an injury-hit loan with RC Strasbourg and he could cost less than £10m to sign.
That has made him a potential target for the Whites regardless of how this season ends, though they will reassess a move once Omobamidele has recovered from an achilles injury.
A feasible target
It feels as though all factors point towards Omobamidele being a feasible Leeds United transfer target regardless of how this season ends.
If available for less than £10m, he would likely be affordable even in the Championship. Nottingham Forest are on the up so a break back into their side feels unlikely, and the defender himself will be keen to go out and play regularly in a bid to maximise his potential.
The 10-time Ireland international and former Norwich City standout could prove a smart signing for LUFC, but time will tell if anything comes of the rumours after previous speculation.
