Celtic told of another goalkeeper possibly replacing Kasper Schmeichel instead of Viljami Sinisalo
The wait goes on for Celtic fans to learn the extent of Kasper Schmeichel’s injury.
Schmeichel injured his shoulder during Denmark’s UEFA Nations League encounter against Portugal during the international break.
The big issue with that is Celtic’s number one goalkeeper couldn’t be substituted because Denmark had made all their subs.
That has probably made Schmeichel’s injury worse, and now attention turns to who will start for Brendan Rodgers in the coming weeks.
Celtic host Hearts in the Premiership on Saturday and all the attention is on Viljami Sinisalo starting.
But another name was thrown into the hat, instead of the summer signing from Aston Villa, who made his Celtic debut in the Scottish Cup this season.
Scott Bain suggested as Kasper Schmeichel’s replacement for Celtic instead of Viljami Sinisalo
Someone like Sinisalo is new to the scene, but Scott Bain has been at the club for several years now, so he will understand and know what the pressure cooker of first-team football is like.
It was suggested that Bain should start against Hearts, with Stephen McGinn issuing a response and highlighting how he ‘has been there in those situation’, as he told Go Radio.
But McGinn made it clear, because of Bain’s lack of minutes and game time, Celtic can’t afford to take that risk, and Sinisalo is the man to take the gloves.
“You could see the thinking of it,” said McGinn. “I actually don’t know how, but Twitter came across a cup final against Hearts when Hearts scored two and Scott Bain was in goal.
“So, he has been there in those situations. I have played with Scott Bain. I thought he was terrific at Dundee when I played with him. He stepped in, at times, for Celtic and did really well.
