Brendan Rodgers faces UEFA touchline ban threat as Celtic slapped with yet another fine
Brendan Rodgers is facing the threat of a UEFA touchline ban.
In UEFA’s disciplinary proceedings report released earlier today, Celtic were sanctioned three times from two matches which both took place against Bayern Munich in the Champions League knockout playoff.
During the first match which took place at Celtic Park, the Hoops were issued with a fine of €9,000 for the blocking of public passageways according to Art. 38 UEFA Safety and Security Regulations.
But it was during the second-leg where the more notable issue came.
Rodgers faces touchline ban after UEFA Celtic ruling
Celtic were punished with a separate €10,000 fine for late kick-off according to Art. 11(2)(h) DR of the regulations. And the ruling sees a one-year suspended match suspension for Rodgers for being involved in the delay.
It comes in the probationary period of one year which means any similar situation would result in a touchline ban for the manager across any UEFA match which would include Champions League but also the Europa League should Celts be playing their football in that competition next season and beyond.
It comes after previous incidents including the threat of an away stadium ban for Celtic fans in relation to their usage of pyro away at Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund.
The Scottish champions have also been hit with monetary punishments on numerous occasions this season.
The Hoops were fined for their Aston Villa moment of fan madness while they were also hit in the pockets after moments at Dortmund.
Not Celtic’s first UEFA sanction this season
Celtic previously hit out at sections of their support who put the club’s coffers in jeopardy.
“The Club has received the decision issued by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body following the match against Borussia Dortmund, in which the Club has been sanctioned.
