WORST NIGHTMARE EVER;Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood suffers serious injuries and announces his resignation finally

Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood was injured playing for New Zealand on international duty.

Chris Wood was taken off injured during New Zealand’s international fixture on Monday, leaving Nottingham Forest sweating over his fitness. The 33-year-old, who has scored 18 goals for Nuno Espirito Santo’s men this season, was struggling with a hip issue in what could be a blow for Forest’s Champions League hopes. The towering striker walked off gingerly with a heavy limp during their World Cup 2026 qualifier against New Caledonia.

The Kiwis were drawing 0-0 at the time when Wood signalled that he needed to be substituted after suffering from some discomfort. He took a knock earlier in the game and tried to run it off, but it soon became clear he would need to be withdrawn. As he trudged off the pitch, the Forest star tried to jog quickly to make way for his replacement but winced as he struggled to walk without limping. He was eventually replaced by Kostas Barbarouses by head coach Darren Bazeley.

The severity of the injury is yet to be determined, but it could prove to be a bitter blow for both club and country. Wood has scored nine goals in his last five games for the All Whites – bagging a hat-trick in the 7-0 demolition of Fiji last time out. He is also his country’s leading all-time goalscorer with 44 goals in 83 caps.

However, New Zealand rallied in his absence as they took the lead just seven minutes after he was taken off. Michael Boxall put them in front on the hour mark, before Barbarousos – the man brought on to replace Wood – added a second on 66 minutes. Defender Elijah Just made sure of the victory late on by scoring the visitors’ third of the night.
