
Tottenham staff unhappy with Cristian Romero after ‘unusual’ development
Tottenham want to tie Romero to a new contract [GiveMeSport]. However, the World Cup winner is thought to be unconvinced about extending his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Spurs are prepared to sell Romero if he doesn’t agree to sign a new deal by the time the summer transfer window opens. In an attempt to extend the centre-back’s deal, which currently runs out in
2027, Tottenham could offer Romero £200,000-a-week.
However, even this kind of offer could prove too little if the tension between Romero and those behind the scenes at Tottenham is as bad as it appears from the outside looking in.
After his return from a long-term injury in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Bournemouth at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 9 March, Romero seemed to aim a dig at Spurs’ medical staff.
And as reported by Eduardo Burgos via X (22 March), the defender was deeply upset with the way the Spurs medical staff handled his injury, and once again chose to thank only the national team
As a result, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think the staff behind the scenes in North London will be too impressed with Romero.
can’t imagine the medical team and the physios are going to be too happy with him. However, there has been a question mark on this all season with the way Spurs’ players have been picking up injuries and the time it has taken them to recover.
Romero wouldn’t be feeling this way unless there was a reason. It is very unusual that Romero is feeling this way, something must be wrong.”
If Romero isn’t going to sign a new deal, now is the time for Spurs to cash in.
