Rangers takeover kingpin plots training ground revolution as VIP sees Auchenhowie red carpet rolled out

Rangers owner in waiting Andrew Cavenagh is already planning a major upgrade of the Ibrox club’s training base.

Record Sport can reveal Cavenagh visited the Auchenhowie facility as part of a VIP tour with his takeover team a fortnight ago, the day after watching Barry Ferguson’s side clinch a place in the quarter finals of the Europa League with a shoot-out win over Fenerbahce.

Cavenagh then crossed the Glasgow divide to attend Parkhead in person the following Sunday where he witnessed Ferguson pull off a thrilling Old Firm derby win.

But, in between those games, the four-man delegation carried out a fact-finding trip behind the scenes to the complex near Milngavie on the north of the city.

And they are already drawing up plans to make immediate modernisations and improvements as soon as the ink dries on the multi-million deal to take over control

As we first revealed, Cavenagh has joined forces with the investment arm of the San Francisco 49ers to put together a buyout which will see them snap up a shareholding of more than 50 per cent.

Cavenagh’s lawyers are still going through an extensive process of examining paper work and rubber-stamping the agreement but it’s anticipated that a formal agreement could be signed off and concluded in the coming weeks.

And that will allow Cavenagh’s American consortium time to get to work on improving both the squad and the club’s facilities ahead of the new season with a significant sum of money already

earmarked to be spent over the summer
