DONE DEAL:Leeds United Secure Pre-Contract Agreement for Isaac Schmidt in £33M+ Deal

The overriding majority of Daniel Farke’s work in the transfer window at Leeds United has been really positive. Plenty of his signings have turned out to be good buys, or real bargains.

Ethan Ampadu is already the club’s captain after being bought for £7m. Sam Byram was signed on a free and Ao Tanaka is arguably his best addition at Leeds all things considered, given he cost a bargain £3.4m.

Farke has been forced into re-moulding his squad. In his strongest XI, six players have been brought in since his arrival at Leeds – Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Tanaka Ampadu, Manor Solomon and Joel Piroe.

However, a couple have not worked out. Largie Ramazani is yet to prove his £10m fee, Ilia Gruev’s time at Leeds is in the balance and Isaac Schmidt is yet to a single league game since his move from St. Gallen.

Isaac Schmidt has big decision to make ahead of 2026 World Cup

The left-footed right-back, who can play on either side, was lured to Leeds on deadline day last summer. Leeds agreed a £4.6m deal for Schmidt but since then, no league starts and just nine outings in total.

So it was a shock when Murat Yakin called Schmidt up to his Switzerland squad this month. Schmidt then started against Northern Ireland, a 1-1 draw over the course of the weekend – but his future is in doubt.

Indeed, Swiss outlet Blick say he may have to consider a summer exit if he is to stand any chance of a place at the 2026 World Cup. He needs game time. At Leeds, especially if promoted, he isn’t getting that.

The night before joining Leeds, Schmidt scored in the Conference League against Trabzonspor and Leeds fans were excited by the prospect of his arrival. Schmidt has even locked horns with Willy Gnonto before.
