Morgan Gibbs-White;Reveals his agreeing terms with Everton and leaving current club for good
Frank Lampard’s tenure as Everton manager was very hit-and-miss.
Frank Lampard replaced Rafael Benitez at the beginning of 2022 and Everton were in a mess both on and off the pitch.
PSR issues had taken a grip of the club in the summer, as they were only able to bring in players on free transfers.
That plummeted them into a relegation battle but Lampard was able to steer them away from suffering a shock relegation.
The Chelsea legend wanted to rebuild the squad at the end of the season and Morgan Gibbs-White was one of his targets.
Everton wouldn’t up their £25m bid for Morgan Gibbs-White in 2022
According to a report from I News in 2022, then-Wolves midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White was keen on a move to Everton.
The Toffees had already submitted a £25m bid for Gibbs-White but it was rejected by the West Midlanders.
Farhad Moshiri wouldn’t up his offer and ultimately, the two clubs were miles apart in their valuation of the 2001-born playmaker.
Nottingham Forest ended up signing him in a £42.5m deal and now he’s considered one of the best English midfielders in the country.
Thomas Tuchel has just called him up to the Three Lions squad for the two World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.
Everton ended up signing Dwight McNeil instead
After missing out on Gibbs-White, Everton ended up spending £20m on Burnley’s wide man Dwight McNeil.
McNeil has been a good servant for the club, netting 14 times whilst laying on 13 assists in 95 outings, but clearly Gibbs-White is a different calibre of player.
Gibbs-White is now valued at around £70m, so Moshiri’s decision to not meet his £42m price tag looks like a major error.
He’s been linked with a move to Arsenal recently.
