The former Ibrox gaffer has been appointed the first sporting director/Head of Soccer at Sporting Club Jacksonville in Florida.
Warburton’s last posting was as an assistant to David Moyes at West Ham, leaving the club not long after the Scotsman led the Hammers to the 2023 Uefa Conference League title, beating Fiorentina in the final.
He led the Ibrox men back into the Premiership during his time in charge at the club, famously beating Celtic on penalties to reach the Scottish Cup final before going down to Hibs.
Life on the club’s return to the top flight wasn’t kind to Warburton, though, with the clu accepting the resignations of Warburton, assistant David Weir and head of recruitment Frank McParland in February 2017.
Jacksonville, where president and CEO Steve Livingstone is a Scot who previously fronted up the Scottish Claymores NFL Europe team, have massive ambitions.
They’re an expansion franchise in the USL, the tier BELOW the MLS in the States.
His role will see Warburton lead all technical aspects of Sporting JAX’s USL professional and pre-professional soccer teams, including the women’s USL Super League and men’s USL Championship teams, along with the club’s USL W League and USL League Two teams.
Additionally, he will spearhead the development of a new professional soccer academy as part of Sporting JAX Soccer Academy, bringing elite-level coaching and greater access to development opportunities for young players across Northeast Florida.
