Vaclav Cerny ‘may never play for Rangers again’ after crushing SPFL update from Ibrox

Vaclav Cerny is facing heat from the Scottish FA and SPFL after his actions as Rangers beat Celtic on Sunday afternoon.

Rangers triumphed at Parkhead as they defeated Brendan Rodgers’ side 3-2, earning the derby day bragging rights.

Barry Ferguson’s side were once again impressive days after knocking Fenerbahce out of the Europa League, with Hamza Igamane netting in the 88th minute to make it consecutive Old Firm victories.

Although the game was a thrilling encounter, the final stages were tainted by a controversial incident between the home fans and Cerny.

Cerny could face massive SPFL ban

The Czechia star was substituted in the 82nd minute as Igamane came on for the 27-year-old winger. When the Moroccan scored the winner, the Rangers dugout jumped to celebrate and ran towards Ferguson.

Cerny, who was running along the bench, appeared to spray water on the Celtic fans sitting close to the dugout, which was caught on camera.

According to Daily Record (18 March, pg50), Cerny could face punishment for his actions. It is said the SPFL and Scottish FA could hand out a ban anywhere between two and eight matches.

If Cerny is handed an eight-game match ban, his season could well be over in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers have only eight games left in the league, with three before the split and Cerny could have played his last game for the Gers if a huge ban is handed down.

Although he will be able to play in the UEFA Europa League, his season domestically looks over. A ban looks increasingly possible too, as pointed out by ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett.

Igamane attracting interest after huge goal

Igamane’s goal dominated the headlines in Scotland as he helped Rangers beat Celtic at Parkhead for the first time since 2020.
