Ferguson baffled by Dessers as multiple major clubs eye Rangers striker

The Nigeria international may have gone back-to-back games without a goal for Rangers, but he still has 22 for the campaign.

Dessers produced a superb showing in Rangers’ 3-1 Europa League win at Fenerbahce two weeks ago, with that arguably his best all-round display since arriving at Ibrox.

In the view of many, though, the 30-year-old still misses too many chances and does not have the clinical edge to lead the line for the Gers.

In the view of former Rangers player turned pundit Ferguson – the brother of caretaker manager Barry – Dessers will not be short of suitors this summer.

And Ferguson believes the manner in which Dessers blows hot and cold continues to baffle him on the basis of his recent European exploits.

In the game against Fenerbahce, he was everything you want from a centre-forward,” Ferguson exclusively told Ibrox News. “He was physical, running the channels, holding the ball up, a threat in front of goal.

I just can’t believe how he performs at such a high level, and then another day he looks out of sorts. If I’d never seen Dessers until last week, I’d have been thinking, what a top, top player.

I don’t get him, I’ll be honest. But what comes across from his interviews is that he’s a lovely guy and he says he wants to stay at Rangers. I’m not so sure they’ll be able to keep hold of him at this rate.

A lot of top clubs across Europe will be looking at his record, which is fantastic. It’s easy to scrutinise his all-round play, but in recent weeks he’s been top drawer.”

Rangers strikers will be judged by their goals in the Scottish Premiership first and foremost, and Dessers has 11 of those in 27 appearances this season.
