£6m Celtic star admits he ‘wasn’t really engaged’ to join Rangers despite holding ‘talks’ before Parkhead move

Celtic’s transfer business over the years has kept the Parkhead club head and shoulders about Rangers for years now.

Celtic’s player trading model has allowed the club to attract some of the best young talent out there, develop them and then sell them on for a healthy profit.

That model has boosted Celtic’s financial results as well as keeping the club’s domestic dominance intact and it’s also paying off for Brendan Rodgers.

The Celtic manager splashed the cash this season to bolster his squad but it was one of Rodgers’ £6m signings that has now admitted he rebuffed Rangers despite there being ‘real interest’ in him before his big Parkhead move.

Auston Trusty admits to Rangers ‘talks’ before big Celtic move

Auston Trusty missed out on the big Glasgow Derby game for Celtic vs Rangers but has now admitted that ‘talks’ with the Ibrox club were ‘real’ before his summer switch to Paradise.

Trusty told The Sunday Post [print edition page 62], “I was one of the best centre-backs in the Championship at the time after a really good year at Birmingham.

“I had a lot of options, thankfully, and it was a really blessed position to be in. Rangers were interested. There was real interest and there were talks.

“I wasn’t really engaged with that process and there were other teams interested as well.

“I am really happy with the way it worked out for me on this side of Glasgow and this team.

“It all worked out in my favour.”

Auston Trusty’s best three Celtic performances this season
