Alex Rae left ’embarrassed’ after what’s happened at Rangers
Alex Rae departed Rangers earlier this year after being humiliated in his role at Ibrox.
The 55-year-old made up part of the coaching staff under Philippe Clement after Michael Beale was sacked back in October 2023.
The former midfielder featured alongside the Belgian head coach with the Gers first-team but was unable to get a positive tune out of his side.
This resulted in the ex-Monaco boss getting the sack in February, with Rae revealing the embarrassing moment that came just days before the trigger was pulled.
Rae left embarrassed by Queens Park defeat
It is fair to say that there were plenty of frustrating moments under the 50-year-old’s management which resulted in supporters constantly demanding for the plug to be pulled.
This didn’t happen as soon as some fans would have liked and came off the back of two defeats which were near impossible to bounce back from.
The second of those came against St Mirren which just isn’t good enough for a side which should be fighting it out for titles.
The prior defeat came against second tier outfit Queens Park in the Scottish Cup, the humiliation of which will be felt by the Govan faithful for many months.
This was echoed by Rae while speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard (14 March), as he revealed his embarrassment of that result.
He said: “I was actually embarrassed by the result and I mean that with the greatest of respect to Queens Park.
“I often used to say it’s all about levels, they came and got a result and I was embarrassed and that’s all I can say. I’m part of that and I knew the magnitude of it because I’ve been around the club for a long time.”
Rangers had to sack Clement
Unfortunately for Rae and the coaching staff around him, there was little choice but for them to move on after such a poor season.
