SFA Announce Referee and VAR Appointments for Glasgow Derby but rejected due to…

Steven McLean has been appointed as the referee for the upcoming Celtic v Rangers clash, with John Beaton on VAR for what promises to be a fiery encounter at Celtic Park on 16 March. [SFA]

Running the lines are Graeme Stewart and Dougie Potter, while Sean Carr is assisting on VAR.

While Celtic sit 16 points clear at the top and the league title is all but secured, this derby will have a different feel to it. For the first time since 2018, there will be more than 750 away fans in attendance, with Rangers supporters set to return to Celtic Park in significant numbers.

Both Brendan Rodgers and Rangers boss Barry Ferguson have welcomed the decision to bring back away supporters for derby matches. The change means that Celtic fans will also be given tickets for the return fixture at Ibrox later in the season, restoring some of the atmosphere that had been lost in recent years.

If Celtic emerge victorious on Sunday, they’re just two games away from winning the league title, making it four in a row for the Hoops.
Hopefully, there are no controversies in this game. In recent times, VAR has made headlines far too often, and taken the focus off the football. If Beaton on the technology does his job properly, there should be no big post-match talking points.
