Rangers make new announcement about John Souttar exit

John Souttar has become a critical figure at Rangers this season, with his injuries hitting them hard.

The defender has made just 16 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Gers this season, and has recently returned to full fitness for Barry Ferguson.

Souttar has been sidelined too frequently, although starred in the 3-1 Europa League win over Fenerbahce in Istanbul last time out.

John Souttar announcement made

The defender has made just one appearance since Barry Ferguson was appointed interim manager at Rangers.

His injury issues took over, but the defender did play the full 90 minutes as Rangers beat Fenerbahce 3-1 in Europa League action last Thursday (6 March).

The Light Blues welcome the Turkish side to Ibrox on Thursday (13 March) for the second leg of the tie as they hope to progress through to the next stage of the Europa League.

Whatever the outcome of the game though, Rangers will have to be ready to immediately shift their focus towards an Old Firm Derby in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday (16 March).

If he is fit enough, Souttar will be picked by Ferguson to start in both games as they are both massive points in Rangers’ season.

Despite those issues, Rangers announced via X on 11 March that Souttar has been called up to the Scotland squad for their game against Greece during the upcoming international break.

Souttar needs minutes

Rangers’ season might be over when it comes to domestic football but they have a great chance to progress in the Europa League after an excellent victory in Turkiye.

Even so, Ferguson looks to be bringing the change that is needed to Ibrox and refreshing the mindset of the players who are performing at higher levels and look like they care more.
