Farke needs to get Leeds United back to winning ways

Leeds United have not been given an easy ride to the top of the Championship this season with Sheffield United and Burnley both hot on their heels.

The Whites’ chances of automatic promotion weren’t helped much after they fell to a shock 1-0 defeat against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Sunday.

Many predicted the Whites to make the trip to the South Coast and come away with all three points to their name, with Leeds expected to have too much quality for their opponents to handle.

However, much like the 3-3 draw at Elland Road on the opening day, Leeds could not overcome John Mousinho’s men.

As a result of this loss, Daniel Farke’s men may start to get slightly worried about what lies ahead.

Leeds United still on course to win Championship title

There’s no denying that the defeat to Pompey has thrown a massive spanner into the works for how the 2024/25 season is going to pan out for Leeds.

Prior to the clash, they looked to be well on their way towards winning the Championship title but now, some doubt could be creeping into the heads of the players and their fans.

However, according to a fresh update from the Opta supercomputer (10 March), Leeds still have a 64 per cent chance of winning the title and are expected to finish in first.

The Blades are the team most likely to finish in second, with a 20.50 per chance at winning the title, while Scott Parker’s Burnley are still set to finish in third. They have a 15.12 per cent of adding the title to their cabinet.

Farke’s men may have only just seen their 17-game unbeaten streak come to an end, but they now find themselves without a win in their last two games.

Leeds’ 1-1 draw against West Brom on 1 March was a fairly end-to-end affair, with their defeat against Pompey on Sunday following a similar pattern.
