Rangers takeover: Stefan Borson suggests completion date after deal agreed
Rangers have endured a challenging season domestically after falling further behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
The Ibrox club were beaten on penalties by Brendan Rodgers’s side in the Scottish League Cup final in December, while they are 16 points behind them in the Scottish Premiership table.
Philippe Clement was sacked as Rangers manager last month, with former captain Barry Ferguson taking on the role on an interim basis until the end of the season.
The 49ers Enterprises-backed takeover appears to be progressing following widespread reports claiming a deal has now been agreed in principle.
The US consortium, which includes Leeds United chairman and health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh, is looking to secure a majority takeover and wants control of the Ibrox boardroom by buying at least 51 per cent of the club’s shares.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider he would take the latest developments with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made.
Former chairman Dave King is currently the largest shareholder in the Glasgow side at 13 per cent, with various other stakeholders owning minority interests.

Rangers set to make takeover announcement soon
Borson revealed the Rangers takeover is likely to be completed once the current season comes to an end.
He told Football Insider: “The thing I don’t really understand is why there’s not been any public announcements about it because it’s quite heavily trailed.
“I would probably just take it with a little pinch of salt at the moment until we’ve got formal confirmation.
“But again, it feels like that would be completed in the close season, ready for next season.
“It could be announced well before the end of the season but probably not completed before the end of the season.”
