Former Celtic player to take charge of Championship side until end of season after manager sacking

Celtic will soon see two former players battling it out as managers in the Scottish Championship.

Scott Brown is currently boss at Ayr United in the second tier and his side are fighting to lift the trophy with Falkirk just ahead by three points in first.

Next weekend the ex-Celtic captain will come up against an old pal and teammate at Partick Thistle when the two clubs go head to head at Firhill.

Kris Doolan was recently sacked by Thistle with his side sitting fourth in the division but a way off the chasing pack. Now he has been replaced in the interim by former Hibs and Ross County striker Brian Graham.

Mark Wilson is in charge of Partick Thistle until end of season

But it’s former Celtic right-back Mark Wilson who has been placed alongside Graham in the dugout having been in charge of the club’s under-18s in recent seasons.

Thistle confirmed that Wilson, as well as Graham, would continue his role as interim head coach until the end of the season when the SPFL outfit will have a new sporting director in place to help take the next steps.

“We remain committed to recruiting a Sporting Director to lead our long-term vision of becoming an established Premiership club who develop our own talent,” chairman Richard Beastall wrote in a statement this week.

“We are making this hire our priority and we are able to focus on this thanks to the positive impact Brian and Mark have had on the first team squad over the last two games.

“In highlighting the improvement in performances, it would be remiss of me not to thank both Craig Dargo, our Head of Youth Academy, and Ross Stormonth, the assistant manager of Partick Thistle Women’s Team who have also taken on additional duties.
