BREAKING NEWS;Nottingham Forest senior figure quits – official paperwork filed
Nottingham Forest have confirmed former chief executive Ioannis Vrentzos has stepped down from his role as a director, sources have told Football Insider.
As per a Companies House submission on Thursday (6 March), it has been revealed Vrentzos’s position has been officially terminated at the City Ground.
The Greek businessman spent four years as the Premier League side’s CEO following Evangelos Marinakis’s takeover in 2017, with Dane Murphy replacing him in 2021.
Vrentzos remained with the club as a director, but he has now left his role in the latest behind-the-scenes change at boardroom level.
Nicholas Randall KC was reappointed as Forest’s chairman last October following Tom Cartledge’s decision to step down after just over a year in the role.
The club’s board now comprises Randall and non-executive directors Jonny Owen, Simon Forster and Michael Dugher.
Lina Souloukou also began work in Nottingham in January after being appointed as the new CEO at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest ownership change could have been agreed
Vrentzos’s departure comes after Sokratis Kominakis quit his role as a Forest director last month despite owning a 20 per cent stake in the club.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider a Forest ownership change could have been agreed between Marinakis and Kominakis in a bid to comply with Uefa competition regulations.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and Marinakis-owned Olympiacos could both be competing in Europe next season, with the governing body’s rules prohibiting clubs from being controlled by the same owners or directors from competing in the same competition.
Vrentzos was previously a director at Olympiacos, who currently sit top of the Greek Super League table, but he is no longer listed as a board member on the club’s official website.
