Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic sets new record for defenders in Europe’s top ten leagues
Statistics reveal that Tottenham loanee Luka Vuskovic is setting the bar high with his performance against OH Leuven, despite not scoring or assisting this time around.
Tottenham Hotspur’s young centre-back Luka Vušković has spent the last two seasons out on loan since signing for the Lilywhites.
With Spurs unable to integrate him into the squad due to age restrictions, he has had to bide his time away from north London.
Currently, at Westerlo in Belgium, the teenager has been catching the eye, particularly for his goalscoring exploits. In fact, Luka Vuskovic’s seven goals this campaign is more than Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka’s five in the Premier League this season.
Luka Vuskovic becomes highest rated defender in top ten leagues
While much of the praise has been directed at his ability to find the net, his latest performance in Westerlo’s league tie against OH Leuven shows there is far more to his game, and statistics now back it up.
According to Sofascore, Luka Vušković’s recent outing against OH Leuven is officially the highest-rated performance by a defender without a goal or assist in the top 10 leagues this season. Tottenham fans will certainly like the sound of that!
The Croatian youngster stands above some of Europe’s elite. Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo, FC Porto’s João Mário, and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich have all recorded high ratings, but none have matched or bettered Vušković’s stunning 9.0 rating in that match.
What this means for Tottenham and Vuskovic’s future
The youngster’s potential is undeniable, and he has already demonstrated he possesses qualities beyond his years, but development takes time. He is still young, and experience will be crucial if he is to compete at the top level.
Fortunately, under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance, opportunities for young players are never far away. If the Croatian continues to impress.
