Newcastle nightmare continues – Two out, two big concerns as Toon make Gordon call

Newcastle United risk being without four key men when they take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final next weekend.

Anthony Gordon’s ‘moment of insanity’ in the FA Cup Fifth Round on Sunday saw Anthony Taylor brandish a red card, with some suggestions Newcastle might appeal the decision.

Neither Sven Botman or Lewis Hall were included in the matchday squad against the Seagulls owing to their own respective injuries, while talisman Alexander Isak limped off in the second half after feeling his groin once again.

Two ruled out Newcastle accept Gordon fate

Newcastle will travel to Wembley to face Arne Slot’s Premier League-leading Reds without both Anthony Gordon and Lewis Hall, with Sky Sports now reporting that we will NOT appeal Gordon’s three-game ban.

Despite widespread speculation and urging from fans and pundits to challenge the decision, a Keith Downie exclusive reveals that Newcastle has decided not to appeal Gordon’s red card.

As a result, the 24-year-old will miss the Magpies next three matches, ruling him out of West Ham (a) and Brentford (h) either side of our trip to Wembley.

Newcastle also confirmed this morning that Lewis Hall will miss the remainder of the season, requiring surgery on his foot after suffering an injury in last week’s 2-0 defeat at Liverpool.

An utterly deflating few days – our chances in both cups dwindling in front of our eyes and Champions League qualification prospects being dealt a major blow – but it could get even worse.

Big concern over Botman and Isak

Sven Botman’s recurring knee issues may mean he misses the Carabao Cup Final, as his planned comeback continues to be delayed after missing Sunday’s defeat to Brighton.

Nothing is yet confirmed with regards to the Dutch defender’s availability, but the rumour is that he won’t make it to Wembley.
